standard-title Services Living Hope is currently the only Eating Disorders treatment center within the Oklahoma City/Norman area that has a medical doctor with specialized training in treating patients with eating disorders. Dr. Meghan Scears is one of a few physicians nation-wide that specializes in the treatment of eating disorders.
Initial Therapy Session (60 minutes)
Initial Therapy Session (60 minutes): The initial visit focuses on your story and background, as well as a bio psychosocial assessment by the therapist.
Follow-Up Therapy Session (45-60 minutes)
Follow up visits occur weekly at the beginning of outpatient treatment and continuing need is assessed throughout treatment. Focus of the sessions is on addressing client eating disorder behaviors client issues, social stressors, mood issues, , coping skills, body image issues, family issues, trauma history, etc. Several of our therapists are trained in EMDR and do this mode of therapy with clients who have a trauma history when desired by the patient. Family therapy is also encouraged.
Primary Care Physician
Dr. Scears also provides primary care services for patients. She is focused on providing high level preventative care as well as caring for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, anxiety, depression, etc. She also provides women’s health care including PAP smears.
Partial Hospitalization Program
Living Hope EDTC offers a PHP to male and female adult patients and male and female adolescent patients on Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM until 6:30 PM. PHP includes meal support for two snacks and two meals for each day attended, as well as various groups including group therapy groups, art therapy groups, and dietitian groups. Prior to admission to PHP an intake assessment is completed with Dr. Scears.
First Outpatient Physician Visit
On the first office visit with Dr. Scears, patients will be offered a two-hour initial comprehensive health assessment. This includes a complete medical and psychiatric evaluation, with emphasis on history of the eating disorder. Additionally, detailed family history, social circumstances, menstrual cycle history (in females), diet history and exercise routine will be evaluated.
Follow-Up Physician Visit
On returning visits with Dr. Scears, a one-hour reassessment will be conducted. This will include reassessment of the current status of the eating disorder and medical complications as evident by additional evaluation and physical exam. Dr. Scears will also reevaluate any prescribed medications and/or side effects, and make adjustments as necessary. Additionally, Dr. Scears will repeat ECG’s, lab work, and/or x-rays as needed.
Intensive Outpatient Program Assessments
Before admission to the Intensive Outpatient Program for the treatment of eating disorders, patients will have an assessment completed by Dr. Scears. This assessment will include comprehensive health assessment. This includes a complete medical and psychiatric evaluation, with emphasis on history of the eating disorder. Additionally, detailed family history, social circumstances, menstrual cycle history.
Initial Dietitian Session (60-90 minutes)
The initial visit focuses on assessment of your medical history, lifestyle, disordered or emotional eating behaviors, and current nutritional intake. You will be asked to complete a 5-7 day food record, which will be analyzed on your first visit. Meal plans will serve as part of the treatment program; an individualized meal plan will be presented and reviewed on the second visit.
Follow-Up Dietitian Sessions (30-60 minutes)
Follow-up visits focus on monitoring progress, making adjustments, providing additional education, assisting with behavioral changes and providing support & guidance.
Frequency of Visits
Dietitian consultations are once weekly in the initial treatment program and continuing needs will be assessed throughout the course of treatment.
Intensive Outpatient Program
